Yep I did it, I mentioned the C word in October but as it’s Johnny’s first Christmas I need to get organised! I’m so excited for Christmas this year but also slightly dreading it as it’ll be closer to going back to work and leaving JJ. Last year I was hoping Johnny wouldn’t arrive early as he was due on the 7th January but if he’d had arrived before Christmas I wouldn’t have been organised at all. It means this year I can really go all out on the baby’s first Christmas bits and make it one to remember! I know he’ll have no idea what day it is but it matters to me that we have the best Christmas, the first as our little family. I’ve loved Christmas ever since being small myself thanks to my family making it such a special time so I want to do the same for Johnny. I’ve already bought, made and been sent a few bits so I thought I’d show you what I have so far!
Personalised Christmas Eve Box
I’m not really that crafty but I’m pretty impressed with my DIY Christmas box I just need to fill it with bits now! So far I’m thinking cute Christmas pyjamas (I’ve already bought some Christmas sleep suits!), a cute Christmas film, a cuddly christmas comforter or teddy bear and maybe some baby sweet treats. If anyone has any other ideas what I could include, do let me know! This box took a lot longer to make than I’d originally planned but its been worth being able to add my own touch to it. I may have also made one for my dog too…
Personalised Christmas Sack
I’m not planning on buying a lot for Johnny this year for a few reasons. He will get so much bought from family and friends plus if he needs anything I’ve just been buying it when he does. Also, it’s his birthday two weeks later so I’ll run out of what to buy! However, he still needs a personalised sack just to put his small presents in plus it can be saved for many years to come. I’m also considering a stocking just to start a tradition with but again I’m not sure yet as what to put in so please let me know any ideas. I really love the traditional hessian sacks, I can’t wait until Johnny’s old enough to understand all about Christmas!
Personalised Christmas Decorations
I really wanted to shed a tear when this beautiful decoration* arrived from Betsy Benn, they sell some amazing Christmas Ornaments and it was really hard to choose just one. I eventually went for the wooden tag that is a letter from the big guy himself. I love that it has the date stamped on too to show Johnny’s first Christmas. It’s just such a special keepsake that I’ll be putting on my tree every year. My favourite part of the letter is the mention of the man in the moon as when I was small my Grandad always used to mention the man in the moon so it’s so sentimental. I love that Christmas tree decorations can be sentimental yet still look gorgeous on the tree and Betsy Benn really have so many beautiful pieces. They have given Glossy Boutique readers 10% off their site, just use Glossy10 at the checkout. You can find many gorgeous gifts on their site for every occasion and family member.
Betsy Benn is a homegrown family business in London. I absolutely love their products including the many Christmas products as well as stunning prints and gifts. The quality of this decoration is amazing for just £14, you can tell each product is made with the greatest care. I can’t wait to get it up on our tree once December arrives!
Have you got anything special lined up for your little one?

Next week we’re finally putting Johnny into his own room and to say I’m dreading it would be an understatement. It’s something we planned to do when we returned from holiday but I’ve always found an excuse, he had a bad cough and then it was too warm. The list is endless. I always knew it had to happen but having him next to me has just always been so easy with breastfeeding. I’ve not had to get out of bed to feed, just roll over and that’s it. However, he’s far too big for his Next to Me now (what a God send that has been!) and it’s not fair on him to make him uncomfortable just for my peace of mind. I’ve bought a few products to try to help the transition be as smooth as possible. I will do an update once we’ve trailed it for a few weeks.
Purflo Breathable Nest
I’ve been trying to save this for when Johnny moved into his nursery but he has had a few naps in it. Although he’s getting a bit big for this one the good news is that Purflo are currently working on a bigger version, hurrah! It stops him rolling over onto his front which always worries me a little but it is breathable anyway so this definitely puts my mind at ease. Johnny has also liked to feel enclosed ever since he was born so I wouldn’t be without this nest now. I can imagine a huge cot can be quite daunting so he feels cuddled in his nest. I’m considering feeding Johnny in the pod and then I can put him straight down in it without disturbing him.The cover also comes off so can easily be washed if Johnny’s sick or we have any other accidents.
To really put my mind at ease, I’ll be watching Johnny ALL of the time. I know after a few weeks I won’t feel as crazy but in the first few days I’m going to be stuck to my camera. Technology is so advanced these days and I’m so glad we invested in a camera. You can buy ones with built-in thermometers, colour pictures and of course sound so it will really make me more relaxed.
Movement Sensor Mat
I’m not sure if this will make me more crazy but we’ve also invested in a sensor mat which will beep if Johnny stops moving. Most of them also have a night-light so it’ll make it easier to check on him without disturbing him. He’s used to sleeping with a dim light as I keep one on in our room so I can see him through the night.
I’m a huge fan of technology and it helps us with Johnny almost every day. Definitely check out Alex Brooker’s smart tech video* for ideas in the household especially the nursery. I need those heated floors now!
Do you have any recommendations for moving baby into their nursery?
Ta Ta for now,
I’ve been MIA since returning from my holiday in Barcelona but I’m trying to get back on track. I always seem to lose motivation with blogging after a holiday and it takes me a while to get back into the swing of things! We had an amazing first family holiday with Johnny, so much so we’ve already booked another holiday for September to Tenerife! Another first coming up is Ryan’s first Fathers Day! Mr Nutcase kindly offered to send an early gift over for him so I chose a photo of the four of us on a gorgeous mug.
I’m really struggling for ideas for Fathers Day gifts, Ryan is so hard to buy for! I’d like to get him something special as it’s his first one. Mr Nutcase has some great ideas including the personalised mug or even a phone case where I can put some photos of Johnny on. I love personalised gifts so Mr Nutcase is perfect for special, unique gifts. They have so much choice including glasses and even newspaper books, I’d love this rugby one!
It’s really easy to use the site too to create your personalised gift. Simply choose the product you’d like, I chose the latte mug* as it’s a cute shape and different to anything we own. You can then choose your image from Facebook, your computer or Instagram which is always handy. From that, you can add text, colour or even use more than one image if you can’t decide on just the one. I chose an image of all our little family, you may even be able to spot Daphne being used as a scarf for Ryan! The mug is made from ceramic material meaning the photo won’t fade as quick and its also heat resistant and dishwasher safe. I know Ryan will love his Fathers Day mug and I’m on the hunt for some more personalised gifts to make his day extra special.
Have you got anything planned for Fathers Day?

I’ve only left Johnny twice so far and I’d say one of the negatives of breastfeeding is that I can’t just leave him on the spare of the moment, I have to make sure there’s enough milk for him. Of course it’s no problem as I know when I’ll be going out and thanks to the Tommee Tippee Express and Go products, expressing milk is so much easier than I thought it’d be. I normally express first thing in a morning whilst feeding Johnny at the same time.
I was originally sent the warmer* but after looking into the whole set I ordered the other items in the collection. Basically, you can pump straight into the pouches, freeze them or just keep them in the fridge if you’re using them soon and then attach the pouch to the bottle. You can use the system with any pump too, you just need to buy the adapters. I have the automatic Tommee Tippee breast pump and I’d highly recommend it as it’s really simple to use.
The warmer can be used with pouches or bottles so if your baby isn’t keen on cold milk as they’re used to room temperature from the source then this is great. Also, if you haven’t got enough milk out of the freezer and baby needs more, frozen milk can also be defrosted in the warmer.
It used to be quite messy pumping into a pouch and then having to transfer it into a bottle so the pouch bottle is perfect as you can still use the Tommee Tippee teats from their normal bottles. The pouches come in a pack of 20 so it’s enough if you need a good backup supply! You can also buy a storage case so they aren’t scattered around the freezer like mine but that’s not a necessity. If you feel this is something you’re interested in, it’s cheaper to buy the full Express and Go set as it contains the warmer, adapters, 20 pouches, the pouch bottle with 4 teats and the storage case. Breastfeeding can be challenging but these products really have made it a little easier.
Do you find anything helps with expressing for your little one?

Whilst I was pregnant, I started to plan in my head which activities I’d love to do with my baby once they were here. When I was younger I used to go swimming a lot with my Dad, I never had lessons, my Dad taught me and that’s one of the biggest memories I have of him. He was a great swimmer and I’m really thankful he took me at a young age before I got the chance to develop a fear. We’ve taken Johnny swimming a few times now and it’s lovely to go as a family. I don’t think he quite knows what to make of it yet, he doesn’t show any emotion really! We wanted to get him used to the water before we go on holiday.
Last week we headed down to the local pool which was actually pretty warm. Konfidence sent us a few swimwear bits to try which was great as he’s out grown his old shorts now plus I’m not sure he was warm enough in just them.
As you can see Johnny loves his Konfidence Babywarma wetsuit*. I chose the same print for each item which was the clownfish pattern! The wetsuit is designed to keep babies warm and safe in the pool. It’s made from 2mm thick neoprene which is snug so it gives your baby that sense of security like they’re being cuddled! There are velcro fastenings at the top, bottom and side of the suit so it’s easy to get on and you can adjust it when they grow. This will be great for our holidays as it also has 100% UV protection and of course it looks so cute!
We were also sent the AquaNappy* and a NeoNappy* swim cover. The AquaNappy had a triple layer design to stop any leakages and of course is reusable. One size fits all thanks to the poppers and Velcro. Nothing else is needed such as a disposable nappy so it saves money in the long run.
The nappy cover can go over the AquaNappy for even less chance of any leakages and I know these are mandatory for some swimming pools. This offers a good seal around the tummy and thighs whilst still not causing any chaffing or pain. All 3 products have been useful so far and we’ll be taking them on our holidays next week!
Have you bought any useful swimwear for your little one?
