As promised, todays post is what’s in my hospital bag – baby version. Last week, I wrote the same post but what’s in the mummys bag and I really hope someone found it useful! As I said then, I’ve read lots of lists and watched lots of Youtube videos on what to pack so I’m hoping I’ve remembered everything! If not, I can always send Ryan out to the nearest supermarket.

Whats in my Hospital Bag

It took actual weeks for me to decide on which changing bag to go for and I finally decided on the Tiba and Marl padded rucksack. I thought a rucksack would be more convenient as I’ll be going on walks with the pram and dog so it’s not likely to get in my way. I love the design of this bag, it has a fold up changing mat inside, insulated pockets for bottles and is pretty roomy.

I’m panicking that I’ve not packed enough clothes but if I do need to stay longer then Ryan can always bring more to the hospital as long as I leave a pile of ‘just incase’ baby clothes at home. As I haven’t had a scan since 23 weeks, I don’t really have any idea what the baby is going to weigh. The midwife gave me an estimation of 7lbs 10 based on my bump size now but I’ve heard this can be massively out! Therefore I’m going to take a mixture of sizes from various shops. I’m taking 2 Sainsburys vests which are up to 9lbs and 2 Primark vests which are up to 10lbs. Just in case baby is quite small or I give birth early, I’m also taking this cute The White Company safari vest which I regret buying in such a small size as it’s only up to 7lbs.

Sleepsuit wise, I’m taking this reindeer piece from Mothercare which I’m not sure is a bit Christmassy if they come after Christmas but I love it anyway. I’m also going to take 2 M&S sleepsuits with built in scratch mits. For their going home outfit, I think I’ve decided on this gorgeous Boots knit that I bought. I’ll then team it with socks, scratch mits and either a plain white hat or grey bear hat. With 6 and a half weeks to go, I’m probably going to change my mind on these outfits! I’ve got the same M&S cardigan in grey and cream so I’ve not decided which one to take yet, I’ll probably end up taking both if they can fit in the bag. You can see more of the baby clothes I’ve bought here and here.

I’m also undecided which blanket to take. I’ve heard the cellular blankets are the best for newborns so I may use this grey White Company blanket in hospital and leave the White Company animal blanket in the car to use on the car seat. I really love all he blankets we’ve bought, so it’s a touch decision! I’m also going to take 3 of the Primark muslins too. I’m not sure whether to take this Aden & Anais swaddle blanket to help them feel relaxed in case we’re in there for some time. The first teddy I bought was The White Company grey bunny so I’m going to take that too in the hope they love it just as much as I do.

Nappy wise, I’m just going to take a pack of size 1’s from Asda and also a few of the Boots nappy samples I’ve had in various goody bags just incase. I’ve also decided not to faff about with cotton wool and just use WaterWipes* instead. WaterWipes are 99.9% water with 0.1% fruit extract so these are perfect for newborns when their skin is so sensitive. I’ve also got a tiny pot of Metanium for any sore bums (the baby’s, not mine!) Although I am hoping to breastfeed, if for any reason baby doesn’t agree with it or I feel uncomfortable, I will stop. I’m not going to take any pressure to breastfeed and if either of us are unhappy with it, I’ll be changing to formula. Therefore I’m going to take this Cow and Gate starter pack just incase as I’m not sure if my hospital give free formula. I’m also taking a Nuby dummy for emergencies.

The most important items are the car seat and base. We went for the Joolz Besafe car seat in the end as we also bought a Joolz pram. After buying the car seat, I realised only one base fit and of course it was the most expensive one out there. It does fit the bigger car seats for the future so we will save money in the long run but unfortunately Ryan didn’t see it like that and I heard about it for the next 12 weeks! We’re going to have the car valeted as it’s not very clean at the moment so once we’ve done that we’ll probably fit the base and car seat in around week 35 just to be on the safe side.

Have I forgotten anything?

With less than 7 weeks to go until Baby Heapy is due to arrive, it’s time to get those last minute bits and although I feel pretty organised, I’m always worrying I’ve forgotten something! The nursery is more or less finished and I really can’t wait to post the finished room on my blog! For now, I’ve compiled a list of a few essentials which I still need to buy.

Last Minute Baby Shopping List

As a first time mum, I’m still learning about what we need to make our lives a bit easier and recently discovered I should buy pram mattress covers. This means if baby is sick or we have any other accidents (i.e. poo explosions!) it’s not going to ruin the pram. We have the Joolz Geo pram and I love the matching grey melange sheet so I’m waiting until Black Friday for some offers as I can’t find it with free delivery anywhere!

I’ve heard amazing reviews of the Purflo nest from my fellow Mummy bloggers Kirsty and Georgina, so I’d love to see how we get on with it. I wouldn’t be able to put them on the couch in it as they’d probably be bothered by Daphne but it’s great to put inside the moses basket so they feel a little more wrapped up. It’s also a lot cheaper than alternatives such as the Sleepyhead and has a breathable padded bumper and mesh. If my baby likes to be held a lot, I’m hoping this is snug enough to make them feel like they’re still being cuddled.

I haven’t bought a breast pump yet as it seems a lot to spend if for some reason I’m unable to breast feed. I’d also rather pay a bit extra and get a really good electric one as I just think for the amount I’ll use it, it’s worth being able to do it quick and relatively stress free. After a bit of research, I now have my eye on the electric Nuby Natural Touch Digital Breast Pump as it has different suction and speed options plus it’s quiet which means I can use it whilst Baby’s asleep.

Although we have a We Made Me wrap, Ryan also wants to buy a carrier for him to use. I’ll mainly be using the wrap inside when I’m trying to get stuff done and can’t leave the baby. Chelsey recommended the Boots Babyway 3in1 which looks amazing value but on the pricier side the BabyBjorn We Carrier looks fab too.

Again, some of my Mummy friends have recommended a white noise toy and I love the ones from myHummy. I’ve particularly got my eye on the ecru white Snoozy as it can be put on the car seat and pram too to settle the baby. The sleep sensory activates myHummy in response to movement and sound and has a non-stop mode for up to 12 hours of white noise. This comes with five types of white noise including amniotic fluid with heartbeat, 2 frequencies of a hairdryer, ocean waves and rainfall.

I’m panicking a little that we don’t have enough sleepsuits for when they’re born. As we have no idea what size they’ll be, I need a few in each size and I only have ones big enough for 9lbs. I’m really hoping Baby won’t be any bigger but you never know! Based on my bump size at my last appointment, the midwife said the baby would weigh around 7lbs 10 but this is a very rough estimation! I love these arctic sleepsuits from Mothercare so I’m going to pick these up in a bigger size just in case!

Finally, a recommendation from Katie is the Tommee Tippee warmer. This seems so reasonable for how convenient it is at less than £10. It heats milk and food when out and about including breast milk and formula. This will be great if there’s no where near by to get hot water.

Is there anything else I need?!

Ta Ta for now,

Ideally I wanted to post a 20 week pregnancy update but as Baby Heapy decided to be stubborn at the scan we weren’t able to get a photo! However, we went back this week at 23 weeks and baby was in a better mood so we were able to finish all the measurements and get that photo! I haven’t really done a pregnancy update on here so I thought it was about time to write about what we’ve bought, how I’m feeling and my worries!

23 Week Pregnancy Update

Pregnancy Update

Big Purchases
So we’ve managed to buy most of the big/ most expensive items now including the nursery furniture and pram! We finally decided on the grey nursery set from Ikea as it has the outside shelves on the wardrobe that I’d been looking for. Also it has storage in the cot which is always useful and the drawers convert to a changing table! As I’ve previously said, we’re going for a grey and white theme with maybe a pop of yellow in the nursery as we’re not finding out the gender of the baby.

After many afternoons looking at prams we finally ordered the Joolz Geo pram in Carbon and the Joolz iZi Go Modular black car seat, both from Pramworld. To match, I bought the Joolz Essentials Nest and cup holder from Natural Baby Shower. As you can imagine these items have taken most of our pennies but I’m super happy with these large purchases! I’ll definitely be blogging about the nursery once it’s finished, it’s like my little project at the moment!

Things Left to Buy
The most expensive item I think we have left to buy is the BeSafe iZi Modular car seat base. I can’t believe the only one that fits our car seat is £190! It will be worthwhile as it fits the next size car seat, it just seems a lot to pay out for at once! We still need to decide on a nursery chair too as I  haven’t found one I like that is within budget. I’m also currently obsessed with looking at nappy bags! I’ve got a wishlist post coming up next week but my current favourite is the Storksak Noa in grey.

Biggest Worries
My current worry is getting through the next 17 weeks of pregnancy! The bus commute into Manchester and back is slowly taking its toll on me especially with this heat. I’m so ready for Autumn! I’m also worrying the nursery won’t be finished in time but as they’ll be in our bedroom for the first 6 months I’m trying not to worry too much. Of course, I’m also worrying that Baby arrives safely.

The sickness has actually been a little better this week which I’m grateful for. I’m still feeling pretty light-headed most of the time especially when I don’t wear my glasses. I’m also still suffering with groin pain but apart from that I’m actually feeling a little better! Touch wood.

Things I’m Missing
I’m really missing sliced chorizo this week which is a bit random. Of course, I’d also kill for a glass of prosecco! I keep looking in shop windows at all the pretty clothes and then look back at my frumpy maternity wear. I can’t wait to be able to wear what I want and not just something that will go over my bump and make me feel comfortable.

What I’m Looking Forward To
Apart from the baby arriving of course, I can’t wait to get started in the nursery. Currently I’ve just bought bits but I can’t start organising til its been painted and the floors been fitted so we’re currently waiting for dates! I also can’t wait to finish for maternity leave in December and spend my days on the couch watching Christmas films until baby Heapy arrives!

Are you guessing Girl or Boy!?

Ta Ta for now,
