Next week we’re finally putting Johnny into his own room and to say I’m dreading it would be an understatement. It’s something we planned to do when we returned from holiday but I’ve always found an excuse, he had a bad cough and then it was too warm. The list is endless. I always knew it had to happen but having him next to me has just always been so easy with breastfeeding. I’ve not had to get out of bed to feed, just roll over and that’s it.  However, he’s far too big for his Next to Me now (what a God send that has been!) and it’s not fair on him to make him uncomfortable just for my peace of mind. I’ve bought a few products to try to help the transition be as smooth as possible. I will do an update once we’ve trailed it for a few weeks.

Purflo Nest Nursery

Purflo Nest Nursery

Purflo Breathable Nest

I’ve been trying to save this for when Johnny moved into his nursery but he has had a few naps in it. Although he’s getting a bit big for this one the good news is that Purflo are currently working on a bigger version, hurrah! It stops him rolling over onto his front which always worries me a little but it is breathable anyway so this definitely puts my mind at ease. Johnny has also liked to feel enclosed ever since he was born so I wouldn’t be without this nest now. I can imagine a huge cot can be quite daunting so he feels cuddled in his nest. I’m considering feeding Johnny in the pod and then I can put him straight down in it without disturbing him.The cover also comes off so can easily be washed if Johnny’s sick or we have any other accidents.

Video Camera

To really put my mind at ease, I’ll be watching Johnny ALL of the time. I know after a few weeks I won’t feel as crazy but in the first few days I’m going to be stuck to my camera. Technology is so advanced these days and I’m so glad we invested in a camera. You can buy ones with built-in thermometers, colour pictures and of course sound so it will really make me more relaxed.

Movement Sensor Mat

I’m not sure if this will make me more crazy but we’ve also invested in a sensor mat which will beep if Johnny stops moving. Most of them also have a night-light so it’ll make it easier to check on him without disturbing him. He’s used to sleeping with a dim light as I keep one on in our room so I can see him through the night.

I’m a huge fan of technology and it helps us with Johnny almost every day. Definitely check out Alex Brooker’s smart tech video* for ideas in the household especially the nursery. I need those heated floors now!

Do you have any recommendations for moving baby into their nursery?

If you read my blog you’ll know I’m a huge fan of animals especially safari animals! We were very kindly asked to go to Chester Zoo and try out the new PLAY! space as well as obviously seeing all the animals. As Johnny’s still a bit young to try the PLAY! areas we took our friends and their little girl along to really test it out!

Chester Zoo Play!

On arrival at Chester Zoo, I couldn’t believe how busy it was on the car parks! The weather wasn’t great but it hadn’t put people off which shows how great it can still be in the rain. There’s plenty of parking space and it didn’t feel too busy once we were in the park. I never realised how big the zoo was, they have every animal imaginable. I hadn’t even heard of some. Of course mine and Johnny’s favourite are the Giraffes!

There’s plenty of places to buy food and we couldn’t resist a cheeky ice cream once the sun finally came out. We went to the Madagascar PLAY! space where Gracie really got to try the area. There’s a sandy beach as well as a river bed where the children can cool down on hot days or just get a bit wet anyway! Gracie told me she really liked the play area, there was lots to do but not much for younger children. Also, if the weathers bad it wouldn’t be useable.

I really enjoyed walking around the Islands at Chester Zoo, it was definitely something different! However my feet were aching from all the walking at this point so we didn’t see as much as we’d hoped. I would have loved to have taken a trip on the boat to really explore. I think it’s a perfect excuse to go back soon once Johnny is a little older.

Have you been to Chester Zoo?

Ta Ta for now,

I’ve been MIA since returning from my holiday in Barcelona but I’m trying to get back on track. I always seem to lose motivation with blogging after a holiday and it takes me a while to get back into the swing of things! We had an amazing first family holiday with Johnny, so much so we’ve already booked another holiday for September to Tenerife! Another first coming up is Ryan’s first Fathers Day! Mr Nutcase kindly offered to send an early gift over for him so I chose a photo of the four of us on a gorgeous mug.

Mr Nutcase Gifts

Mr Nutcase Gifts

I’m really struggling for ideas for Fathers Day gifts, Ryan is so hard to buy for! I’d like to get him something special as it’s his first one. Mr Nutcase has some great ideas including the personalised mug or even a phone case where I can put some photos of Johnny on. I love personalised gifts so Mr Nutcase is perfect for special, unique gifts. They have so much choice including glasses and even newspaper books, I’d love this rugby one!

It’s really easy to use the site too to create your personalised gift. Simply choose the product you’d like, I chose the latte mug* as it’s a cute shape and different to anything we own. You can then choose your image from Facebook, your computer or Instagram which is always handy. From that, you can add text, colour or even use more than one image if you can’t decide on just the one. I chose an image of all our little family, you may even be able to spot Daphne being used as a scarf for Ryan! The mug is made from ceramic material meaning the photo won’t fade as quick and its also heat resistant and dishwasher safe.  I know Ryan will love his Fathers Day mug and I’m on the hunt for some more personalised gifts to make his day extra special.

Have you got anything planned for Fathers Day?

Hi, I’m Heather and I blog over at Of Beauty and Nothingness *catchy I know. I’m here to bring you a post all about my hero products. By ‘hero products’, I mean products that I have used for years and I will always use and buy as they are fantastic!

Beauty Heroes

Beauty Heroes

Let’s start with my three favourite haircare products; the first is one I’ve used for years, it’s the Moroccan Oil Light Hair Oil. I love this hair oil either on damp hair or on dry hair as an oil treatment an hour before I wash it. It leaves my hair smoother, softer and less frizzy without weighing it down or making it greasy. The second haircare product is the opposite, the Colab Dry Shampoo. I used to hate dry shampoo but now I use it every other day to refresh my hair and the Colab dry shampoos are perfect for those with dark hair as it doesn’t leave a chalky residue. Lastly, in the haircare category is a hair brush; the Tangle Teezer which is a much raved about detangling brush – it’s an essential for my thick, tangle prone hair (The Wet Brush is also great!).

Now onto skincare, my skin is dry, sensitive and prone to eczema so finding skincare is a little difficult for me but through my blog and the wonderful blogging community I’ve found some amazing products that don’t irritate my skin. The first is a ‘bloggers made me buy it’ product and it’s the amazing Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water which is so gentle but so effective!

One brand in particular that has been amazing for my annoying and temperamental skin is Antipodes which is the best skincare brand I’ve ever tried. I have been lucky enough to try a lot of their products through my blog and I’d recommend everything!

Lastly for my hero products is the Silky Underwear Dusting Powder from Lush; this product is basically just a heavenly scented talcum powder but to me it is so nostalgic as I first bought it while I was in sixth form which is about six years ago now! I use it as a talcum/baby powder as well as a linen refresher.

Thanks so much to Heather for another great guest post!

Hi Glossy-Boutiquers, so I’m not the lovely Emma, but I’m super excited to guest post on her incredible blog. I’ve been a massive fan of Glossy Boutique for a long time now, so when the opportunity came up I couldn’t turn down the chance to feature on one of my all-time favourites. My main problem was deciding what to write about, beauty is generally my go-to and my favourite topic to write about so I went straight there.

Ultimate Makeup Repurchases

Ultimate Makeup Repurchases

Ultimate Makeup Repurchases

Lately I have been re-purchasing a lot of my holy-grail products. For some reason, everything seemed to run out around the same time. Poor, poor bank balance. As such, I thought it’d be fun to run through all my ultimate repurchases and explain why they’re such holy-grail items for me.

The Kiehl’s Microblur Skin Perfector has become my ultimate primer. I think I’m on my fourth, or fifth bottle now, and nothing has ever matched up. It just smoothes my skin like nothing else, neutralises any redness and helps my make-up go on smoothly and last all day. It also keeps my face looking pretty matte, which for an oily gal is the ultimate goal. So for me, even though it’s about £24 a pop, it’s definitely worth it. The Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser is another, pricy, but absolutely necessary make up item for me, especially when it’s getting warmer and I’m heading on holiday. It’s the ultimate summer base. Generally I wear a tinted SPF for the day on holiday, but in the evenings (or when I’m at home and not going anywhere) this is a lovely low key base. It’s light to medium coverage, but very buildable, the shade match is spot on for me, and it’s long lasting. The finish gives a dewy glow, but because it’s oil-free you get no oily patches and there’s no wear in my oily spots.

While we’re on the topic of bases, there’s two concealers I keep buying again, and again. The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is one of the most hyped of all time, and rightly so. It’s my go to for covering blemishes and redness. I’ve been using this for years, but a fairly new discovery for me is Rimmel’s Match Perfection Concealer, which is my new under eye, brightening concealer. It brightens up my bags so well, lasts all day. These are both super affordable products, but really high quality.

Moving up to the eyes, there are two products I think I’ll be wearing, and buying until the day I run out of money. I’ve tried a few different liquid liners over the years, and for some reason they always transfer onto my upper lid. Enter Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner. I first started using this after my wedding make up artist suggested it, and I’ve never looked back. It’s super black, easy to use, and lasts ALL DAY. Like, all day, with no transfer. It’s my ultimate product. On top of that, the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara is my go to mascara all year around. It lengthens, curls and adds volume. Again, it holds my lashes in place all day and keeps them looking long and fluttery. It’s also super affordable and easy on the purse strings.

As a beauty blogger it’s hard to really settle on one product for something, you get to try to many different things, and you’re addicted to trying different products. But, it also means when you repurchase a product, you know it’s a holy grail for you.

Thanks so much to Lisa for doing a guest post at such short notice, please go visit her blog at Topaz and May!
